Referencing & Academic Integrity Explained

20 February 2026 Β· 6 min read

What counts as your own work, how to cite properly, and how to use support ethically.

Academic integrity means the work you submit represents your own understanding. Support, tutoring, proofreading and feedback are legitimate β€” misrepresenting someone else's work as yours is not.

Cite every idea that is not your own, including paraphrased ideas. Keep a reference manager from day one to avoid last-minute errors.

If you are unsure whether a form of help is permitted, check your university's academic integrity policy or ask your module leader.
